Messi's Comeback: Two Goals in Four Minutes Lift Inter Miami to Victory Over Philadelphia Union

Messi's Comeback: Two Goals in Four Minutes Lift Inter Miami to Victory Over Philadelphia Union

Lionel Messi fully recovered from injury and scored his 13th and 14th goals in Major League Soccer and provided his 14th assist in Inter Miami’s win against Philadelphia Union 3-1. This retrial helped the team regain morale and start the attack effectively and with precision.

Luis Suarez made sure that he stayed close to D. C. by scoring the 17th goal in the dying moments of the match. Three players: United’s Belgian striker Christian Benteke are vying for the MLS Golden Boot. On the other hand, Jordi Alba played a decisive role; he gave a fine assist in both goals scored by Messi. Led by the 62 points that Miami scored in this match they become the first team to score over 60 points adding to their tally and superseding all their rivals to become the Supporters’ Shield winners.

Despite Messi’s absence from the pitch for too long, Drake Callender was efficient with seven magnificent saves to ensure the Herons posted their fifth-straight victory and their ninth in the last ten matches. Bernardo Callender came up with a spirited defense in a hard-fought match as Miami rose to the occasion as they played without the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner who missed nine games.

Mikael Uhre, for the Union, opened the scoring in the first few minutes of the game. Philadelphia showed significant attacking prowess throughout their struggle for a playoff spot as they finished the season with the 11th position in the Eastern Conference. While they dominated the meal with 20 attempts at goal, of which only eight were accurate shots at goal, they never managed to do so because of Callender’s heroics as well as poor conversion. The final score may seem lopsided on the field, the game seemed much more evenly matched.

And after being called up for Argentina’s Copa America on June 1, Messi did not play a game for Miami. He has not been on the field since the final on July 14 because of an injury that he sustained in his ankle ligament. However, it was not long before Messi started making the impact he is known for, and he equalized the score for Miami within a short span of coming back.

It was the 26th minute that saw a shift in the event that was unfolding. Suarez returned the ball with his first touch by intercepting the ball from Alba with his back to the net. Within the blink of an eye, Messi equalized the goal difference and took his chance to deceive Andrew Rick and outdo Wagner by shooting a low concluded state. Arguably, with Messi, there was a decisive and quick change of pace.

Four minutes later, Messi was perfectly positioned to take the penalty after Alba delivered an accurate cross into the penalty area. In a team match, Messi passed the ball to hit the post at the right time. Rick tried to get a touch by going low but that proved to be insufficient as the ball goes over the line.

However, towards the second half of the season, the opponents put pressure on Miami all the time. But Messi had not finished yet. In a last burst of creativity, he delivered a delightful pass to Suarez who placed the ball in the lower left of the net to give Miami their last goal of the night.

After the match Messi, who now has 14 goals in 13 games this season, acknowledged he was "a little tired".

"I really wanted to come back, I had been off of the field for a long time," he added.

"Little by little I was training with the group, feeling good and that's why we decided that I would start, and I'm very happy."
