Mr Brightside Favored to Make History with Back-to-Back Victory at The 2024 All-Star Mile

Mr Brightside Favored to Make History with Back-to-Back Victory at The 2024 All-Star Mile

Mr. Brightside, the formidable contender, is strongly favored to secure consecutive wins and achieve a remarkable milestone as the inaugural two-time champion of The All-Star Mile. This prestigious event is scheduled to unfold at Caulfield Racecourse over the upcoming weekend, promising an electrifying display of racing prowess and determination.

In a memorable feat last autumn, the Lindsay Park-trained powerhouse triumphed in the All-Star Mile at The Valley. Now, as the prestigious event relocates to Caulfield as part of its annual track rotation, the stakes are even higher for his title defense in the $3.75 million race.

Twelve of the season's finest milers grace the track for this year's race, with Craig Williams guiding the top contender from a challenging position in gate 11.

The six-year-old Bullbars gelding, Mr. Brightside, is in top form this campaign, boasting consecutive Group 1 victories at the track, clinching the C.F. Orr Stakes – Futurity Stakes double over 1400m.

With an impressive track record of five wins from six starts at Caulfield, he's primed and prepared to tackle the 1600m distance, where he holds a commanding record of 10 wins, 2 seconds, and 1 third in 16 starts.

As the final acceptances roll in, Ladbrokes.com.au has Mr Brightside leading the pack with odds of $1.90, a clear testament to his dominance in the upcoming All-S

In the post-acceptance markets, the only other contender boasting single-digit odds is the elegant mare, Pride Of Jenni, priced at $3.40. Positioned in gate six, she remains a formidable presence with Declan Bates at the helm, maintaining their successful partnership with the talented six-year-old.

Despite registering only one victory from nine prior outings at Caulfield, the Ciaron Maher-trained six-year-old possesses undeniable talent, showcased through her impressive triumphs in Flemington's Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes and Champions Mile over the same distance during the spring season.

She displayed exceptional form in her recent outing, narrowly losing to Mr. Brightside by a mere nose in the CF Orr on February 10. Since then, she has been meticulously prepared, maintaining her freshness for another anticipated showdown with the same rival this weekend.

Priced at $11 in All-Star Mile betting, the seasoned campaigner and Godolphin stalwart, nine-year-old Cascadian, emerges as the next best contender. With barrier seven and Ben Melham in the saddle, he aims to reclaim winning form and add another chapter to his illustrious career.

Throughout his illustrious 51-start career, the chestnut phenom has accumulated nearly $8.5 million in stakes earnings, showcasing his versatility with victories spanning distances up to 2000 meters.

Exactly a year ago, he triumphed in the prestigious Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington, marking his latest stellar achievement on the racetrack.

Despite encountering a stroke of misfortune, his recent performance in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) left much to be desired, finishing ninth amongst nine contenders. However, he displayed notable improvement at Randwick, securing a commendable fourth place behind Think It Over in the Group 1 Verry Elleegant (1600m) in his last outing before journeying south for the All-Star event.

Cascadian is set to make his third bid for victory in the event this Saturday, having finished fifth behind Zaaki at Flemington in 2022 and narrowly missing out on the win to Mr Brightside at Moonee Valley last autumn, where he secured a commendable second place finish at significant odds.

Desert Lightning, priced at $15, emerges as a formidable contender in this year's event, presenting one of the most promising 'Win and You're In' opportunities. Hailing from New Zealand, this entrant seeks to disrupt the locals' dominance and make a mark in the competition.

Trained by Peter & Dawn Williams, the Pride Of Dubai four-year-old embarks on his maiden journey across the Tasman, securing his berth in the All-Star Mile field with a surprising victory in the Aetaroa Classic (1600m) at Ellerslie on January 27.

Coming off a recent third-place finish to LA Crique in a Group 1 WFA mile race in his homeland, he now seizes his opportunity in Australia starting from gate eight, with Vinnie Colgan in the saddle.

Ayrton, priced at $15 in the latest markets for Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr, showcased his Stakes-winning form on Australia Day, clinching victory in the Listed Barton Stakes (1400m), followed by a respectable fifth-place finish in the CF Orr and a third-place effort in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m).

The All-Star Mile 2024 is set to feature as the eighth race on Caulfield's 10-race card, kicking off at 4:15pm (AEDT) this Saturday.
