Boxing Manager Sean Gibbons stated that an undisputed WBC bantamweight champion, Junto Nakatani, who was already an undefeated champion, will showcase a fight against one of the top-ranked contenders Vincent Astrolabio on July 20 at the Ariake Arena, Tokyo.
Nakatani (27-0, 20 KOs) is the three-division champion of Japan and he has left everybody in the ring in simply awe because of his force! In 2019 he was victorious and retained the super-flyweight title as he knocked down Moloney at the sixth round that followed their fight in the year before. In the second month of the day, he succeeded knocking-out Alexander Santiago in the sixth round to win the title of bantamweight.
Nakatani is in the ring with a formidable contender from the Philippines- Paballo "The Playboy" Astrolabio (19-4, 14KOs), who is backed by Manny Pacquiao. One of the many notable events about Astrolabio in 2022 was he won against the two-time Olympic champion Guillermo Rigondeaux after unanimous decision and also he made a knockdown. However, last year in Stockton, California, he had a setback fighting against Jason Moloney. who was the OBO bantamweight champion; he lost in a majority decision fight.
Following that setback, Astrolabio really bounced back finishing off one of Thailand’s toughest fighters, Navapon Khaikhanha with a superb 11th round TKO, it happened in August’s eliminator fight. This victory hence exhibited his adroitness and will, showing him to be a genuine adversary to reckon with.
“Vincent learned so much from his first title shot that he’s going to take into this fight,” Gibbons said. “He’s coming to Japan with heavy hands, looking at the big opportunity of winning a world title against a guy like this … being a champion around this weight class puts everyone in the (Naoya) Inoue sweepstakes.”
“We know Nakatani is considered a real beast right now and a possible opponent for Inoue next year,” Gibbons said. “Imagine if we whack the guy and look tremendous … plus, winning a WBC title is always the biggest and most prestigious accomplishment in the smaller weights.”
“He put Rigondeaux on the deck, which got everyone to sit up and realize, ‘Hey, this guy’s a sleeper,’” Gibbons said. “He’s a late bloomer in that his early losses came at a time he was just learning and figuring things out. “This is a huge task, just like Luis Nery had a huge task before putting Inoue on the deck. Yes, he got stopped, but he showed these guys in Japan aren’t untouchable.
Astrolabio will have to clash with the best bully in Japan before he will be able to attempt the unified super-bantamweight after Naoya Inoue stunned the audience by defending his title in front of 55,000 at the Tokyo Dome through a TKO victory against elusive Luis Nery in the sixth round. The skill and readiness will be checked and confirmed by the event that Inoue is bound for once again that shows Astrolabio's power.
Where Manny is from there is this popular city in Mindanao called General Santos, Astrolabio’s town. Among the prospects that are revolutionized by Pacquiao's guidehood is Astralabio. It is his marketing that keeps him going especially that the marketing is working to the advantage of the fighting activities in which he has been involved.
