Ryan Garcia's Victory Over Devin Haney Was Uncontested; Suspended For A Year Following A Failed Drug Test

Ryan Garcia's Victory Over Devin Haney Was Uncontested; Suspended For A Year Following A Failed Drug Test

New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) decided that boxer Ryan Garcia had been banned to the time of April 2025, following his positive test for a banned substance. undefined The 1 million paycheck that he was giving to fight Devin Haney, will not be paid as part of the settlement. Haney’s representative, Pat English, claimed the forfeited monies would go back to the so-called promoter and not the NYSAC. While it was not able to establish the exact amount to have been forfeited, the New York Department of State accepted the forfeiture. The strong and strict measure shows how the commission does not condone any aspect of drugs and strictly enforces it against anyone who commits an infraction concerning them.

In another statement from the New York Department of State. Ryan Garcia was advised that his professional boxer license in New York State will remain suspended until April 20 2025 if he provides a clean urine tested.

On majority vote, Garcia for Garcia, the result was changed to “no contest” and the NYSAC fined him $10,000. Using the premise that thefight occurred in the state of New York, the commission came to a conclusion.

Currently the executive director for the California State Athletic Commission, Andy Foster has stood firm in his stands to implement the suspension and has called for his counterparts in other states to follow suit.

Citing the common practice of fighters consuming supplements to cut weight, a statement released by Garcia’s camp averred that the 25-year-old boxer had ingested a contaminated supplement.

“For many years, Ryan has voluntarily submitted to random testing, even during out-of-competition periods, and has never had any issues,’’ the statement said. “He has maintained an impeccable and clean record throughout his career, significantly elevating and transcending the sport of boxing, earning respect and admiration from millions of fans worldwide.

Consumer advocate as he often refers to himself, California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster has been urging the other 49 states to follow its lead and not allow the suspension to be lifted.

In the statement, issued to defend the 25-year-old boxer Garcia, it was alleged that he was poisoned by a contaminated supplement.

Based on the statement, there was no sufficient amount of ostarine in the small quantity detected to confer any benefit to the statement against Haney. “The fans will always remember his performance against Haney as a masterclass, and that will never be erased.’’

BodyHealth, the company of one of the supplements Garcia claimed that was contaminated with ostarine, which he said led to a positive drug test, said that after laboratories had conducted their tests, two certified labs confirmed that their product was not tainted with the compound.

The specific supplement being referred to is called Perfect Amino and is described to have a strawberry flavor.

Garcia announced his boxing retirement through a post on X. However, he was on Thursday forced to release a statement that appeared to call for a different approach of action. “He will be back in the ring soon and better than ever!" the statement said.

Before rumours of his suspension surfaced, Garcia was busy announcing on X, formely Twitter, that he is done with boxing. Later he even asserted that he would like to talk with the president of UFC, Dana White, about joining the company.

"I really hope boxing [is] good without me," Garcia posted . "I fought everyone and was willing to. They have turned there [sic] back on me. I'm innocent. I stand by that I don't care what everyone says. I didn't take PEDs."

WADA has banned the substance which is known as ostarine and is used to increase muscle mass. It is revealed in the test results which were conducted later in the course of the examination proving its presence.

His first fight saw him beat Haney, via majority decision in New York the same city he collected three knockdowns against the WBC super lightweight champion. Garcia took a victory, but due to he was overweight the limit, he was stripped of his opportunity to win the title.
