The Sacramento Kings’ head coach, Mike Brown, was dismissed from his position after the team struggled to an initial win-loss slate of 13-18. As December near the completion the club is an outside observer with no possibility to be included to the play-in tournament and the playoffs. This decision came less than two years after Brown was honored as NBA Coach of the Year for his contribution that helped Sacramento to end a 16-year playoff absence and a few months after he inked a new three-year deal.
Before the 2022-2023 season, Brown was given the head coaching job and the team transformed their first year under him. He snapped the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL record of active postseason appearance absence of the team by taking the team to playoffs for the first time ever since 2006. A lot of appreciation showered on him in terms of work achievements such as the league’s most prestigious award – the coach of the year. For the team to gain some stability assistant coach, Doug Christie is said to have been promoted and is currently the interim head coach of the Kings that are again switching strategies.
Mike Brown enjoyed a highly successful first season at the helm of the Sacramento Kings last year, but the team struggled in the campaign that just ended, failing to make the play-offs after suffering a defeat to the New Orleans Pelicans in the play-in event. But it has recording a very sharp drop this season, coupled more with great disappointments. The Kings have now been defeated 12 of the previous 17 games, are currently on a five-game losing streak and hold the dubious distinction of having 13 clutch loses, which other teams believe is unique at the moment. A confusing number, especially when considering that the core of the team is built by players such as De’Aaron Fox and DeMar DeRozan.
Brown has been a head coach of Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers teams before joining the Sacramento team. His overall 454-304 (.599) win-loss record in the regular-season bears testimony to his ability to take his charges all the way through, come rain or shine. But the last years the Kings team worsens, the problems which did not let even experienced head manager Brown to improve the situation.
Poor performance is compounded by Trade rumors of Kings involving De’Aaron Fox. Last summer, the leading point guard was said to have rejected an extension contract because he was thinking about his place in Sacramento. And since then, some observer began to doubt whether he intends to stay with the organization longer even his latest choice has sparked off discussions on the future of the organization and not to mention the rumors that his time with the squad is almost up.
After Thursday night’s 101-87 defeat against the Detroit Pistons, Mike Brown ‘s frustration towards the Kings struggles are evident. Sacramento managed to be by three points only after they had thrown away a pivotal 19-point lead as the game clock counted down in the final ten seconds. But in the last possession of Detroit, the calamity happened, not only Fox committed a foul on a play of the ball, but the Kings left Jaden Ivey unleash the possibility of a three-point attempt. He made the free throw, threw the ball and created the biggest joy for the spectators of the Pistons team . After the game, Brown took his team to the cleaners especially during the final moments of the game labeling fox as …
The sudden nature of the firing can, however, not be in any doubt since Mike Brown addressed the press earlier today before Sacramento’s game against the Lakers on Saturday night. However, it is apparent that the Kings understood that if they wanted to bring a change in their current `path,’ they needed to alter the leadership.
