On behalf of King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bestowed the title upon Senor Buscador, declaring the American horse the champion of the 5th edition of the Saudi Cup 2024 held at the King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Riyadh.
After an exhilarating competition, Senor Buscador claimed victory, clinching the leading position in the ninth round of the Saudi Cup race.
This globally renowned equestrian spectacle featured substantial prize money amounting to $37.6 million distributed across 17 rounds.
The Saudi Cup, boasting a remarkable prize purse of $20 million, witnessed an unprecedented turnout of 244 competing horses, setting a new record for participation.
The Crown Prince received a warm welcome from Prince Bandar bin Khalid Al-Faisal. Prince Bandar holds significant roles as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for both the Equestrian Authority and the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia, underscoring his key positions in the oversight and governance of equestrian activities within the country. This reception reflects the importance of their roles in the coordination and execution of events like the Saudi Cup.
In the final round of this prestigious horse racing competition, renowned for attracting elite thoroughbreds and top-notch jockeys from across the globe, the participating horses and jockeys assembled on the parade ground before the race, presenting themselves to the Crown Prince.
Following the victory, Joe Peacock Jr., who co-bred the horse with his late father and shares ownership with Sharaf Mohammed S Al Hariri, expressed, "Todd mentioned from the outset that this race was ideally suited for him."
“It’s the perfect distance, it’s just the one turn which is beneficial given his running style as we know he is going to come from way back and with two turns, he just gives up too much ground.
“I couldn’t be happier with the result. He knows where he needs to be and he got there on the day “I always worry about him because he gets so far back but we have a lot of confidence, a lot of faith in the horse.
“He has a big heart, he doesn’t always get there but we knew that given time, he would put it all together and win a big one. We didn’t really think it would be the Saudi Cup but we’ll take it. “He’s the last horse my dad and I bred together so it’s very, very special.”
Subsequently, the Crown Prince extended congratulations to the owner of Senor Buscador, commending them on the victory and personally presenting them with the prestigious Saudi Cup. Additionally, he conveyed his congratulations to the horse trainer and jockey, honoring their achievements by gifting a horse replica to the trainer and a cavalry horse helmet to the jockey.
Securing the second position in this high-stakes horseracing event was Ushba Tesoro from Japan. Additionally, the horse named "Tower of London" emerged victorious in the Red Sea Cup, conquering a 3,000-meter grass track and securing a substantial $1.5 million prize for its owners.
Celebrating a triumph, former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson witnessed his horse, "Spirit Dancer," seize the top spot in the Howden Neom Turf Cup.
