On December 26, Major League Baseball (MLB) unveiled its list of “12 players who achieved milestones” in 2024, highlighting incredible achievements across the league. Among them was Shohei Otani of the Los Angeles Dodgers, whose record-breaking season rewrote baseball history.
Otani recorded an extraordinary 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases, making him the first player in MLB history to achieve 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season. Additionally, he concluded the 2024 season with 225 career home runs in MLB, surpassing Hideki Matsui’s record of 175 home runs to become the most prolific Japanese power hitter in MLB history. Reflecting on his achievement, Otani remarked, “Before the season started, I never thought the countdown would begin,” underscoring the magnitude of his unprecedented feat.
The list also celebrated Aaron Judge of the Yankees, who smashed 58 home runs this season and reached 300 career home runs in just 955 games—100 games faster than the previous record-holder. Meanwhile, Juan Soto achieved 200 home runs before the age of 26 and set a new MLB record with 769 career walks by that age.
Other notable mentions included Corbin Burns, who struck out 1,000 batters this season with the Orioles, highlighting his dominance as a pitcher.
