Dana White was in the audience last autumn; it was he who wanted to capture the atmosphere at one the most innovative leisure facilities in the world, just when U2 started a long-awaited residency at the Sphere.
In the newly developed venue located off Las Vegas Strip, White witnessed how the giant High Definition LED display was beneficial and became almost integral to the Irish rock stars as they entertained their fans with their biggest hits spanning the last 40 years.
White quickly understood that such a grand spectacle could not go unnoticed by the UFC and that the Sphere would become the venue for one of the organization’s important pay-per-view bouts – at least once. That vision after investing almost $20 million and nearly a year to see into reality is going to happen very soon. UFC 306 will etch its name in the innovative venue this Saturday as two title fights headline what should be an unforgettable event.
“It’s the first time that entertainment and sports truly come together. I think the Sphere and what we’re doing (Saturday) is going to make some of these venues change their vision and how they build them.” White said, “I truly believe that this event is going to be such a game changer”
“You go to a Lakers game and they’ve got some guy that comes out juggling at halftime, the mascot’s dunking a ball off the trampoline. I think they’re going to start to get more creative in how you can truly create better experiences for people at live sporting events.”
“We usually produce two different shows,” White said. “There’s a live in-house show you experience and there’s a television experience. We’re going to try to bring that together live and on television.”
On the same, White and the Chief Content Officer, Craig Borsari have set to enhance UFC 306 with an advanced facet. Audiences will be in an exciting atmosphere within a stadium that is complemented by sophisticated technological aspects. On the other hand, pay-per-view viewers will watch the event as if they are watching from the stadium, since specialty cameras and lenses will have been used to capture the event and its emotions to the viewers homes.
“It’s going to be a really, really huge event,” Grasso said. “It’s going to be new for all of us. On one side’s going to be the crowd and behind (the fighters) the big screen. A completely different arena we are used to, but it’s amazing. I’m proud and super thankful to the UFC for allowing me to be part of this card.”
There are seven fighters who are expected to have an influence in their cage performance and among them more than half of them are Mexicans. The highly anticipated trilogy bout between flyweight champion Alexa Grasso Valentina Shevchenko will see Grasso lead the assault for one more time. This co-main event is expected to be an even more brutal fight between the two. An explosive showdown that has the making to redefine the bantamweight division will be fought between bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley and the relentless Merab Dvalishvili. It is a night of rivalry and great performances which everyone will remember for quite a while.
