Vingegaard Soars in Tour de France Time Trial, widening his lead.

Vingegaard Soars in Tour de France Time Trial, widening his lead.

After a commendable effort from Dylan van Baarle on behalf of the yellow and black team, it was time for Van Aert to step into the spotlight. Despite slipping back a bit on the flat stretches, the 28-year-old Belgian staged a breathtaking comeback during the final kilometers. Van Aert's performance was nothing short of remarkable, catapulting him into a dominant position and leaving spectators in awe of his prowess on the track.

Meanwhile, as Van Aert crossed the finish line, it marked the beginning of Vingegaard's race against the clock as the last contender. Adorned in the prestigious yellow jersey, the Danish cyclist kicked off his run with sheer determination, quickly leaving Pogacar trailing by 16 seconds at the first checkpoint. With each pedal stroke, Vingegaard extended his lead, showcasing incredible strength during the first climb and the subsequent descent. As he charged into the final climb with a remarkable half-minute advantage, his dominance only became more apparent. Consequently, in the general classification, the gap between Vingegaard and Pogacar expanded to an impressive one minute and 48 seconds, solidifying his place among the elite cyclists of the Tour de France.

"I felt fantastic, but I also surprised myself a bit, This was the best time trial I have ever done. It started with the flat part and the first climb, where I went as fast as possible. After that, I hoped to recover on the descent and go all out on the final climb. It went incredibly well. The team also did a fantastic job guiding me through the day. I thank them from the bottom of my heart.”, Vingegaard expressed.

"I started to have doubts and thought my Garmin was broken. I had great legs. Now it's all about making a good plan for tomorrow. I expect attacks on my yellow jersey during the queen stage.” Incredulous, Vingegaard couldn't believe his results.

The Belgian time trial champion thought he performed admirably during the time trial, but he was taken aback when he saw his teammate Vingegaard finishing nearly three minutes ahead of him. "What Jonas demonstrated today is astounding, I hoped to have a bit more left in the last part because that was where it got tricky. On the climb, I was able to make up time for some of the riders who started faster. That makes me happy, but two riders stand out.”

Van Aert described today's outcome as a significant stride in the right direction. Nevertheless, the Belgian remains cautious. "The fact that Jonas won makes it a fantastic day for us. But we have to keep our heads up. There are still some tough days ahead. Anything can happen. The Tour is not decided until we get to Paris.”

Team Jumbo-Visma's season tally reaches 43, while the Danish cyclist himself now boasts 12 wins.
