Yuki Kawamura Reflects on Learning from the Bench After Grizzlies' Opening Win

Yuki Kawamura Reflects on Learning from the Bench After Grizzlies' Opening Win

The Memphis Grizzlies opened their season with a narrow 126-124 victory over the Utah Jazz on October 24, but rookie Yuki Kawamura did not see game action. As the fourth Japanese player to join the NBA, Kawamura had anticipated this moment following his signing of a two-way contract on October 20 and his inclusion in the opening roster two days later.

Although he was the only player from the bench not to participate in the game, Kawamura remained positive, stating, "Winning is the top priority now that the season has started. Not being able to play means I'm not in the rotation, and I realize there are many things I still need to prove." He emphasized the importance of his current situation, noting, "I believe there is a lot to learn from the bench, and I want to make sure I take this opportunity to learn from every game, whether I play or not."

Kawamura is focused on his long-term goal of contributing to the team on the court. "My goal is to become a player who can help the team win," he said. "I know it won't be easy, but day by day, I want to earn the recognition of the coaching staff and my teammates, grow, and eventually be a player who can help secure victories." His determination and resilience shine through as he looks forward to future opportunities in the league.
