Hiroki Akimoto is poised to demonstrate substantial improvements as he makes his long-awaited return to action during U.S. primetime on Friday, May 3rd. This implies that Akimoto has been working diligently on refining his skills or addressing any weaknesses during his time away from the spotlight, and now he's eager to showcase the results of his efforts to a wider audience.
In his most recent competition, Hiroki Akimoto, the former ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion, faced defeat and lost his title. However, he remains resolute in his determination to regain his winning form. His chance for redemption comes in the form of a showdown against the formidable Chinese fighter known as "Demon Blade" Wei Rui.
The statement discusses Hiroki Akimoto's transition from training at Evolve MMA in Singapore to Tokyo's Power of Dreams gym due to visa issues. It highlights the challenges he faced with visa complications and how he has now settled into his new training environment in Tokyo.
Akimoto is content with the support and training he's receiving from his current team. He looks forward to demonstrating his progress and skills when he competes at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand next week.
Akimoto explained, “I couldn’t renew my visa, so I left Singapore and returned to Japan. I started to train at a new gym last December, so that has been a big change. Ultimately, I won’t know until I actually fight, but I’m getting a good feeling from it. I’m having many realizations in each training session, and I can feel myself growing.” Akomoto added, “In terms of training, the previous fight showed me my weaknesses, so I’ve been working on improving those while further honing my strengths.”
Wei, on the other hand, stands as one of China's premier kickboxing exports, boasting an impressive 20-fight winning streak and holding titles in both K-1 and KLF Championships.
Akimoto was delighted to face such a formidable opponent for his comeback" emphasizes his enthusiasm for the challenge. Then, it highlights that he understands the tough battle ahead, indicating his acknowledgment of the opponent's experience and skill. Finally, it concludes by stating that despite the challenge, he remains undaunted, showing his confidence and determination.
“My opponent is a really good fighter, so I was happy when I got the offer. I knew about him. I haven’t seen him fight live, but I had the impression that he’s a skilled fighter.”
“All the fighters in ONE have won titles so I’m not really conscious of the fact that he’s a former K-1 World Champion.”
“I just see him as another fighter who has strengths but also areas that can be exploited, so I’ll just prepare as I always do.”
With an impressive record of 69 wins and only 3 losses, along with numerous accolades, Wei Rui stands as one of the premier pound-for-pound kickboxers globally.
“My opponent has good reach. He uses his arms and legs very skillfully, and his footwork is also good. Since my opponent is skilled with both kicks and punches, I think it will be more of a long-range fight. The exchanges at that range should be interesting to watch.”
“I’m good at kicking too, and since my opponent excels at various kicks, that aspect should be a highlight.”
While Akimoto acknowledges Wei's skills, his main priority is to implement his own game plan during the contest.
“I want to shut him out completely. That’s the main goal. There are a few key points I have in mind, so I want to execute those properly. If I let him take control, I’ll lose, so I need to do what I’ve practiced. Akimoto added, “In the first half of the fight, we’ll likely exchange kicks in an exciting way for the viewers. Then in the second half, I want to take control of the pace and be dominant at both kicking and close range.”
