Atlético Madrid Tops LaLiga Midseason with Record 14th Win, Powered by Álvarez Goal

Atletico Madrid achieved a 1-0 victory over Osasuna on Sunday and in doing so the team created a new club record – a whopping 14 wins in a row. As a result of this amazing victory, they strengthened their dominance further and moved to the summit of the Spanish league log at midpoint in the season.

"We are very happy (with our streak), we’ve been doing great work, but we have to keep working with humility. Good things will come," Alvarez said.

Julián Álvarez scored the decisive goal in the game changer in the 55 th minute in the Metropolitano Stadium. Diego Simeone’s team has left third place Barcelona six points behind it and at the moment the latter has only one point advantage over the second team in the championship battle.

Álvarez, who scored his 13th goal this season in all competitions, said, "I had several chances in the first half and I was upset at halftime, but I focused on the next chance. It was one of the plays we practiced in the past few days.”

Atletico Madrid has not been defeated in any game and set an invincible record since October of this year every tournament. Their last blunder was a 1-0 league defeat against Real Betis on October 27 which now feel like ages ago. Interestingly, half of these victories occurred in the league as TeamClassic kept on climbing to the top during this streak.

“It’s an important streak to show the growth of this club,” Simeone said. “We have been working really hard.”

"It is not easy at all, we have been rewarded after the hard work we put in. But there is still a long way to go to reach our goal, which is to win the league title in May," De Paul said.

Osasuna's winless streak in the league has now stretched to seven matches.

"It’s very hard to create goal opportunities against Atleti. I have to congratulate my players — they played a great game. It would be better if it ended in a draw."

"They have 14 straight wins, which shows how difficult it is," Osasuna coach Vicente Moreno said. "We started with some doubts, but we grew into the game and came close to finding a clear scoring chance.

Having played six games in total and coming through three tournaments in just 18 days, Iego Simeone’s team is gearing up for a busy January. They begin the battle on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey match against second division Elche. In the next three days they move to Leganés for a La Liga match.
