The ranks of Bitcoin millionaires have swelled in 2023 even as the cryptocurrency trades far below its record highs. According to BitInfoCharts, the number of wallets holding at least $1 million worth of Bitcoin has more than tripled year-to-date.
On January 1st, there were 23,795 BTC addresses boasting millionaire status. As of November, that number has skyrocketed to 81,925 wallets containing $1 million or more in Bitcoin – a 237% surge.
These figures correspond with the return of the crypto bull market in 2023. However, Bitcoin's price remains nearly 70% below its November 2021 peak of $69,000 which saw over 112,000 millionaire wallets.
Meanwhile, wallets holding at least 1 full BTC, dubbed "wholecoiners," increased slightly in 2023, from 978,197 to 1,018,015 – just a 4% bump. This shows broader adoption has lagged behind wealthy investors.
As the halving cycle progresses, the still-early crypto market will likely mint many more Bitcoin millionaires. But everyday users continue searching for the opportune time to reach wholecoiner status before the next bull run peaks.
