Esports World Cup Introduces Free Fire Tournament with a Massive $1 Million Prize Pool

Esports World Cup Introduces Free Fire Tournament with a Massive $1 Million Prize Pool

The inaugural edition of the Esports World Cup, Saudi Arabia's comprehensive esports tournament succeeding the Gamers8 festival, has revealed the inclusion of Free Fire as one of its mobile games. Alongside the enticing $1 million prize pool, participating teams will vie for a coveted spot in the Free Fire World Series (FFWS) 2024 Global Finals.

Harold Teo, the Free Fire producer at Garena, shared his thoughts, “We are honored to be a part of the widely anticipated first edition of the Esports World Cup. The team is working closely with the EWC Foundation to deliver an unforgettable Free Fire esports experience, and we cannot wait to unveil our plans to our global community, especially our players in the region”

The Esports World Cup: Free Fire is happening in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and it consists of two main parts: the group stage and the finals. In the group stage, the 18 teams compete in a knockout format, and the top 12 move on to the Finals where they will compete to decide the overall winner.

⚫ Group Stage: July 10 to 12

Finals: July 13 and 14

Winning Free Fire becomes even more meaningful for players because the champion earns a spot in the FFWS Global Finals 2024, which is scheduled to return to Brazil, the location of the first-ever World Series.

Free Fire's entry into the Esports World Cup with a generous $1 million prize pool is a promising move for the game, aiming to enhance its global esports presence. Despite a previous peak viewership of 5.4 million, Free Fire has seen a decline in esports viewership in recent years. In response, Garena has made substantial changes to its 2024 roadmap, rebranding all regional tournaments under the FFWS name. This marks a significant effort to revitalize and strengthen Free Fire's position in the esports landscape.

By participating in the forthcoming Esports World Cup: Free Fire, Garena aligns itself with a rising number of publishers and esports events involved in the EWC. This esports extravaganza encompasses tournaments in StarCraft II and Counter-Strike 2, alongside Mobile Legends' Mid Season Cup and the Dota 2 Riyadh Masters 2024.
