This was so much evident in his desire to keep on fighting with the aim of making the promotion company’s history as the only fighter to hold three championship belts in the UFC at the same time. He had no trouble in 2023, but in 2024 he was faced with an unexpected problem – a broken pinky toe cut short his plans. As 2025 is shown, McGregor is all but done with the idea of returning to the cage and has fully shifted his focus towards stripping.
A high-profile fight with Logan Paul in India is what “The Notorious” is looking forward to. The highly affluent Ambani family which wants to promote its Sports18 network more aggressively across the globe for an opulent display of star power is linked with the spirited fight. Nate Diaz and Conor Mcgregor have championed this possibility, but Jake Paul has waded into the contest and is eyeing the UFC’s first two-division champion which brings more questions to this possibly colossal fight.
Enchanted by the prospect of a conceivable nine figure revenue that might compare to what he earned in his fight with Floyd Mayweather, McGregor is not ready to let go of the Ambani deal. McGregor never gave up and because of him, UFC was forced to bend and give the fans the 2017 super fight. McGregor seems willing to employ his marquee popularity once more, steering this spectacle to its finish line with that bristling inferno once more.
36-year-old Conor McGregor, on the other hand, has not returned to the cage since being knocked cold by Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 last year. When earlier this year, fans expected McGregor to make a long-awaited return against Michael Chandler, they had to be disappointed again when the Irishman withdrew from their scheduled UFC 303 fight at last minute due to a nasty injury.
On X, McGregor clarified: "The rumors of a bout with Topuria are false. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon."
On the other hand, an independent wrestler-turned-boxer, Logan Paul, is still finding his niche in wrestling separating box rooms for the WWE. He has also fought the world champion Floyd Mayweather and fought another YouTuber KSI in two fights though technically he is relatively new. His last fight was against Dillon Danis, a former MMA fighter and former McGregor teammate. In the finish of the match, after Danis could not submit Paul anymore and in turn faced his takedown attempt, Paul stood up and announced his victory in an unsavory round.
The possible stakes are juicy, despite the fact that McGregor against Paul may still remain a mere pipe dream. If the former UFC two-division champion, McGregor were to brutalize Paul for victory and deliver a knock out early next year there would have been immediate consequences. With an 11-1 record in boxing, and confidence to boot, Logan’s younger brother Jake Paul would likely come into the fight looking for revenge. This drama of resentment and lineage has the sincere possibility to engage those who like boxing and watching MMA.
In a recent social media post, the American took a swipe at McGregor, writing: "Now it all makes sense why Conor Mcgregor and his management team have been desperately trying to get MVP to negotiate for a fight between us. As we told them them privately and I'm now saying it publicly...the only way we're willing to explore me vs Conor in a pro boxing / MMA fight is if Dana White / UFC are at the table directly or make it clear they are ok with discussions. Conor is washed. Needs the Paul's. Logan by however he wants."
Even when Conor McGregor squares off with Jake Paul known as “The Problem Child”, the fight may be as enthusiastically anticipated as when Jake Paul threatened to fight Mike Tyson in 2021. The potential prize money would be huge, and McGregor’s income could sky-rocket, to, potentially, becoming the highest paid fighter the combat sports have ever seen, if he were to beat both Jake and Logan Paul within the same year.
While on the other note, defeating the Paul brothers would be the headline of the year but McGregor’s triumphant homecoming to the legendary UFC Octagon has to be the pinnacle of the comeback. Besides the achievement of building back his image that has been greatly tarnished by his losses, a victory there would represent to why he is still recognized world over as “Notorious” in MMA.
UFC president Dana White hasn't announced McGregor's next rival, he's confident about the Irishman's return to the ring, stating, "Yes. I wasn't 100 percent in 2024, but I am in 2025. I just am. I know more than you guys know. I'm 100 percent confident McGregor will fight next year."
