Shohei Ohtani hit two home runs, including a three-run shot and a two-run blast, in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 19-2 blowout win over the Oakland Athletics on May 15 (May 16 Japan time). Ohtani's 15th home run of the season tied him for the MLB lead, alongside Philadelphia’s Kyle Schwarber and the New York Yankees' Aaron Judge.
Ohtani, playing as the designated hitter and batting leadoff, kicked off his stellar night with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. However, his true explosion came in the third, when he crushed a three-run homer off Athletics reliever Alexander. Not content with just one blast, Ohtani followed up in the fourth inning, hitting a two-run home run to extend his team’s lead further.
The Dodgers’ offense was in full swing, registering 18 hits and five home runs, with Ohtani's two round-trippers being the standout. The team managed to score in every inning through the fourth, securing a comfortable victory and clinching the series win with their second straight win.
In total, Ohtani went 2-for-5 with 6 RBIs. His performance followed a strong outing the previous day, where he also had two hits, including a leadoff home run—his 13th of the season.
As the MLB season continues, Ohtani's hot bat has kept him in the MVP conversation, as he not only leads the league in home runs but also remains one of the most dynamic players in both hitting and pitching.
