The Indiana Pacers defeated the New York Knicks 130–121 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, putting them one victory away from their first NBA Finals appearance since 2000. With Tyrese Haliburton's historic performance driving the victory, Indiana leads the series 3-1 going into Game 5 in New York.
With 32 points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds without committing a single turnover, Haliburton put on a masterclass. Since turnovers were first recorded in the NBA playoffs in 1977–78, this record-breaking stat line represents the first time a player has ever accomplished such stats in a postseason game. His influence on both sides of the court was further cemented when he added five three-pointers and four steals.
With 30 points, Pascal Siakam made a substantial contribution, and Bennedict Mathurin scored 20 points off the bench. The Pacers' depth and well-rounded offensive attack were demonstrated by the contributions of Aaron Nesmith (16 points) and Myles Turner (13 points).
By scoring 43 points in the first quarter and keeping the lead the entire time, the Pacers established the tone early on. They dominated in transition with a 22–9 lead in fast-break points and scored an outstanding 51.1% from the field and 40.6% from beyond the arc.
Even though the Knicks' best players played well—OG Anunoby had 22 points, Karl-Anthony Towns had 24 points and 12 rebounds, and Jalen Brunson scored 31 points—the club had trouble with turnovers and defense. These problems were noted by coach Tom Thibodeau, who pointed out that the squad was unable to stop Indiana's quick-paced offense.
Madison Square Garden will host Game 5 on Thursday. The Knicks want to avoid elimination and prolong the series, while the Pacers want to finish the series and guarantee their place in the NBA Finals.
