Excitement Builds Ahead of Singapore Grand Prix Weekend

Excitement Builds Ahead of Singapore Grand Prix Weekend

Formula 1 is so unpredictable that even the leading competitors are not guaranteed a win every time. Consider the race that took place in Baku last weekend: Max Verstappen, the title leader, found it difficult to get into a routine in an underwhelming Red Bull, while Lando Norris of McLaren lost out on a chance to win after a yellow light ended his qualifying effort. An annoying turn of events for both parties.

Thus, nobody of the race leaders was able to challenge Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, and the pair did not disappoint in giving a good fight. Leclerc was ahead and dominated the race since the beginning of the event. However, Piastri during braking overshot the rival, and while overtaking the competitor, courageously took the lead after the pit-stop. Then with calmness beyond his years he was able to skillfully fend off Leclerc’s attacks to secure his second professional fight victory. With such approaches, it can be clear that Piastri has a very bright future ahead of him.

In Singapore, Max Verstappen has 59 point lead over Lando Noriis and thus appears to be dominant, but with McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes all having podium contenders, it is far from it. As much as Verstappen realizes his shortcomings, the competition remains cutthroat.

Meanwhile the FIA cleared the so-called “flexi-wing” despite the video footage from the last week which depicted some significant movements of McLaren on the straights. The season just got more intriguing with the speculations regarding Daniel Ricciardo’s move from Red Bull next year.

The three days of the Singapore F1 race, the chances of thunderstorms are anticipated, However, most of the precipitations are expected in the morning. Showering might however very well catch us during a period like qualifying or the race adding yet another factor of uncertainty to the events.

Singapore’s first F1 experience was in 2008 and the event was groundbreaking as it was the world’s first night race. It observed Lewis Hamilton’s sensational pole position lap in 2018: Many of the corners will have watched one of the most impressive laps ever recorded in a modern Formula One car. On the same roads a year later, Sebastian Vettel made the 53rd and the last victory and this was a record. Subsequently, in the 2023 edition, Carlos Sainz used the same tactic and let the car in front of him have the DRS line and this allowed him to hold off even faster cars. In a game, where strategy has the highest value, it was the masterful stroke.

Red Bull also picks up what Mercedes, McLaren and RB have done before and announce a limited edition livery only on the evening before the event. But rather than rolling out this eye-catching design, they are opting for the ‘No Livery’ concept, which entails stripping the car down to make it lightweight. Getting back those precious seconds that could be the deciding factors on the racetrack is what it is all about. This could be a risky step in a game where the wind can determine the outcome of the match.

Even though Singapore is several hours ahead of the UK, the night race is convenient for the British audiences. The Singapore Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, September 22 at 1:00 BST, while the qualifying will be conducted on Saturday, September 21 at 2:00 BST.

On Saturday, FP3 takes place at 10:30, before the more thrilling activity of qualifying, which comes later on. This schedule means that fans back home can watch all the actions unfurl without any interruption.
